Championship Poem by Peter Croton
IN HONOR OF THE FLYERS BASEBALL TEAM'S GREAT CHAMPIONSHIP VICTORY OVER THE ZÜRICH BARRACUDAS ON OCTOBER 21st, 2017
by Peter Croton
The poetry was on the field
in Therwil yesterday,
as the Flyers and the Cudas
both came out to play.
The Cudas came out swinging
and were the first to score,
but no-one could predict
what the Flyers had in store.
The Cudas almost scored again
with a huge hit to the wall,
but Kolli jumped, and Kolli caught
that f***ing little ball!
It then was David’s homer
that put the home team on the board;
after seven scoreless innings
the Flyers finally scored!
The pitching was magnificent
by Hide, and Andi too,
after eight tension-filled innings
the Flyers were down 3 to 2!
Then to the plate in inning 9
little Sven did stride,
and with one stroke of his mighty bat
the game at 3-3 was tied!
There was a bit of tension
at 2nd base after a play:
a Cuda sat on David
and David kicked him away.
It caused some consternation
and the Cudas charged the field,
but Rausi played the ‘peacemaker’
and the rift was quickly healed.
It went to extra innings
and the Cudas scored a run,
the Flyers then came up to bat
and they were far from done.
But they made 2 outs with no-one on
and the Cudas smelled the win,
then Taka hit a double
and Rafi knocked him in!
And Rafi pimped the double
like the world has never seen -
his bat flew straight up in the air
and boy did that guy preen!
The tension was increasing
as Javi came up to the plate,
that slugger batted Rafi in
and sealed the Cudas’ fate.
Another season come and gone,
an ending quite astounding,
for the fans it was a treat -
the thrills are still resounding.
In the annals of Swiss baseball
it will be in the ‘Hall of Fame’,
for the poetry was ON the field
in this amazing game.
